BERWICK -<0x00a0>Joseph Carlson, 51, rural Berwick, died at 8:30 a.m. Thursday (Jan. 20, 2005) in Warren County.

He was born Jan. 12, 1954, in Galesburg, the son of Arthur and Roberta Shaw Carlson.

He married Joni Jackson in 1973 in Knoxville.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, Justin of St. Charles, Mo., and Jeremy at home; a daughter, Julia at home; a brother, Max (and Lidia) in Texas; and a stepbrother, Bob Shaw. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He graduated from ROVA School in 1972 and earned his master's degree in special education from Western Illinois University.<0x00a0>He was working on his master's degree in administration at the university.

He lived near Berwick the past seven years and before that in Abingdon.

He worked as a behavior management consultant for many of the western Illinois school districts.

He was of Methodist faith.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon chapel, with a prayer service at 8 p.m. by the Rev. Paul Dinges.<0x00a0>Cremation will be accorded following the service.

Memorials may be made to an education fund for his children at Tompkins State Bank in Abingdon.

FOOTER NOTE: Even though i knew you for four years in high school, and a brief visit to the high school at the end of 8th grade, and i didnt get to see you once again as i had promised myself i was, I will still always remember the impact in high school that you had on my life to help me believe again, Mr Carlson.
